How to Hook Up a Subwoofer System to a Car’s Stock Stereo

The Most Important Audiophile Choice I decided to both expand upon, and yet still simplify, my earlier article, seen above, titled: Building a Great Audio System. This time I will argue that there is a single most important choice an audiophile can make when creating a great audio system or, at the least, creating the finest audio system for the least amount of money invested. That critical choice is unambiguously simple: First we’ll focus on the practical reasons, which almost all involve maximizing the flexibility and the unlimited options resulting from this initial choice: All these amplifier types are compatible with this choice of speaker. The amplifier choice thus becomes strictly one of audio quality, not quantity, which eliminates the frustrating compromises that other audiophiles must accept and live with. With a high-efficiency speaker, other formerly impractical options now become possible.

Connecting sub to receiver w/no sub output

I have a much better understanding of ohm cooking. I have two combo amps. One is a Fender Superchamp X2. The one speaker out jack that the internal speaker is connected to says Minimum 8 ohms.

You could buy an attenuator and bring the level down a bunch, or buy a preamp to stick between the sub and amp. Each would work for what you need to do. It sounds like you just have a very powerful amp for your speakers or are listening really close to them so they don’t need much power.

With Kenwood, there would be a switch to bridge it to 2 channel. You don’t have to use both channels you probably don’t have to bridge both either if you want to use the spare channel to amplify your two back speakers at 75 watts each But if not you can leave the spare channel unused. Normally when in bridged mode, you will hook positive from the speaker to positive usually marked with a circle around it from one channel in the bridged pair, and the negative also marked of the other from the pair.

If you look at the amp it will probably be 2 pairs of screws side by side, then some adjustments, then 2 more sets of screws. Each pair of pairs is a bridgeable set, when bridged, you only use the outer screws of the 4 as one channel, and the two middle screws go unused. It should be apparent by the markings on the amp. At watts you only need 14 gauge stranded wire to feed the speakers. At 75 watts you could use 18 gauge.

To feed the watts you would only need 12 gauge from the battery and for the ground. You should fuse the battery hot at the battery incase of accidental damage resulting in short circuit make sure it is rated at the total amps of the unit.

Wiring snake or wire coat hanger 1. With the higher quality kits, these cables often come with a ring terminal attached to one of their ends. Remember to disconnect your negative battery cable from the terminal before you start any electrical work on your car. You may have to peel back the carpet in the interior for a better view. That way you can just poke a hole through the grommet and run your power cable through.

Yes, this is very possible. Just disconnect your battery & run the power with an inline fuse from your battery to your amp. Hook up the ground as close to your amp as possible . Now you need to run your remote wire. You can run a wire from your battery with a 10/15amp inline fuse as .

In my case, I also have the added burden that two of my main contributors are or were speaker manufacturers, some of whose products you will see as References below. Other associates are distributors of speaker lines. Accordingly, I made the only decision I could: All the choices in this category are mine alone. What I say to those who question my objectivity is; please closely read the rest of the References first to see my consistency and sensitivities, before making judgements on the few choices you may be understandingly skeptical about.

Any final and true judgement concerning these or any specific components requires a personal listening session with them. If this list inspires such an event, it has been a success, no matter what the ultimate result. Behind the Curve This is the component category in which I believe that I am most “behind the curve”. While I am very confident that all the speakers that are included deserve to be there, I am just as confident that there are at least an equal number of others that are missing.

I have heard some of the “missing”, but I haven’t yet made the in-depth evaluations and comparisons that are a requirement for their inclusion.

Can I hook up a amp and sub to my stock radio?

Tweets by CommonSense 17 Apps and Websites Kids Are Heading to After Facebook Social media apps that let teens do it all — text, chat, meet people, and share their pics and videos — often fly under parents’ radars. While it may seem more complicated to post photos on Instagram, share casual moments on Snapchat, text on WhatsApp, and check your Twitter feed throughout the day, tweens and teens love the variety. You don’t need to know the ins and outs of all the apps, sites, and terms that are “hot” right now and frankly, if you did, they wouldn’t be trendy anymore.

This can be a tricky step. You want to choose a speaker and amp that put out the most power, without blowing each other. What you want is the RMS of both the subwoofer speaker and the amplifier to be as close as possible.

These mistakes can range from simple problematic issues to things that could quickly lead to premature device failure. Let me quickly explain why. Every cable has inherent resistance. The thinner the cable, the more resistance the cable will have. There are other factors as well, but this is the big one. The more resistance a cable has, the more it will affect the frequency response which is possible at the end of the cable run.

The reason this is related is because the load the amplifier has to deal with when driving a pair of speakers, changes with frequency.

Let me say right up front that you only need to read this article if you are lucky enough that your group is getting bookings in large or outdoor venues. But if you have a good set of main PA speakers that are starting to sound strained at those large gigs, you might want to think about a next logical step. You can send comments, questions, or scathing diatribes to Larry at lmundy attbi.

As I said at the end of that article, the result worked great. This requires PA speakers and amps that can reproduce a full spectrum of sound. For most folks with a decent PA setup, this means simply adding subwoofers and subwoofer amps to extend the low range of the overall system.

May 08,  · yes it’s possible. it’s how i have my setup atm. but first you gotta make sure the amp can handle the power to give both subs without distorting the signal. second, you gotta make sure you can wire the subs correctly to give the amp the proper ohm load. just wiring positive to negative isnt the only way it’ll : Resolved.

Podcasting , Technology Any system is only as good as the weakest link in the chain and audio systems are certainly no exception to the rule. Attaching speakers to your Hi-Fi system usually only requires a few cables. These potential problems are easy to spot with a few simple tests and luckily the corresponding remedies are equally simple. Left and Right Tests In the grand scale of things, getting your left and right speakers mixed up is not a major problem.

Record producers and mix engineers spend weeks mixing and producing an album and as part of the process they will decide where in the mix to place certain instruments. Then try the following two fairly self explanatory tests on your music system. You will need to check the wiring of your system, rewiring where necessary and then repeat the two tests to make sure that both channels are working and in the correct order.

The following diagram shows how to wire your speakers to your amplifier: When you listen to the following test, place your head as centrally as you can between your two speakers; you should hear Winnie coming from the dead centre of your speakers. In this case you are hearing equal amounts of Winnie from both speakers. If it does, ensure that the balance control is in the centre position. If after checking the balance control, things still sounds one sided, you may have a more fundamental problem with your system that requires investigation or professional attention.

This could be as simple as a dirty connection or a dodgy interconnecting cable, or if things are worse it could be a more ingrained electronic or speaker problem. Listen to the following and you should be able to hear the difference for yourself:

Can i hook up 1 sub to a 4 channel amp?

One thing I learned pretty early in life is that speakers are not meant to be wired together in a haphazard manner. In fact, whenever you plan to connect more than two speakers to a two-channel amplifier — or more than four speakers to a four-channel amp — there are a few things to consider, not the least of which is the amps ability to handle low-impedance loads. Ignoring the basics is like playing Russian roulette with your amplifier: If youre lucky, itll drive the speakers without incident; if youre not, the amp will fry.

May 07,  · Whether its for a mobile bike party or a solar powered concert, a 12V or 24V sound system is the key. I recently built several systems for mobile bike parties and this article has a .

February 3, I have the AMP and am currently using it to power my 2 front speakers in my 7. Would the AMP be able to power the subwoofer in addition to my 2 front speakers? Also, which subwoofer do you recommend of the two noted? The location would be lower front left corner of room approx. Thank you for your help! Good question, but I do not believe the AMP will help you out. Plus placement of your sub woofer can be critical.

Can you hook up 2 subs to a monoblock amp?

It would have to be in an hatchback, rear deck, or truck to have any benefit There are some woofers that you can get that will run off that power range, but don’t expect to be booming the block. Probably something your parents would listen to, slight bass at low volumes. Running it ported might be ok for low level daily driving.
